As viewers, we constantly make split-second decisions about where we direct our attention, how long we direct our attention, and what action we take after that attention has been spent. These decisions happen so quickly they are almost automatic. We can almost instantly recognize how much a piece of content relates to us and therefore, how much of our cognitive awareness we should invest in what this content has to offer.
